Having a busy day with work, people like to have a relaxed evening and spend some time outside having their favourite snack or dinner. So simply we can say. Evening and night is the time, when, the real flavor of food comes out.
Getting relaxed with their favourite dish is good, but on a regular basis, consuming these dishes may have some health issues, unless the dish has a healthy part with it. So we are glad to make a healthy night without disturbing your favorites.
From a child to elderly person, everyone has their own style of taking evening and night dishes. The healthy and the favourite dish of one age group cannot be the same to another age group. So, when we discuss about healthy night, it should satisfy all the age groups.
Let’s have a look at how a healthy night could be, in accordance with their age group:
Children
Teenagers
Adults
Elders
Children:
To most children, having snack is an excited part of their evening. Biscuits, chocolates and chips are the most familiar categories, which make up the major part in their snack. Initially the varieties in these categories were very less, but now a lot of varieties, flavors and tastes have come which drives the children towards them. With the taste and flavor they get addicted to these types of snacks. All the snack varieties are considered as junk.
Instead, children can have native snack like Kadalai Mittai (Peanut candy), Ellu urundai (Sesame balls), Thean Mittai (Honey candy), Thengai Mittai (Coconut burfi), Kamara Kattu (Jaggery balls). Savory crunchy snack like Murukku, Mixture, Seedai, and it goes on…
Children can take steamed foods like Iddiyappam, Puttu, etc.. as their dinner. Since they play for a long time, these type healthy dinners should be provided to them.
Teenager:
Usually teenage is the period where they get exposed to many things. They search for mouth-watering foods, which actually contains only 2-3 tastes with them, spicy, sweet and citrus. They are in the age group to grow in a healthier way. Getting addicted to these foods will lead to excessive growth, which again is a trouble. The body needs all types of tastes. But when teenagers stick to some particular taste, the body may have less functionality and won’t respond properly when it is needed.
Consuming all 9 types tastes often or as per the availability, helps to maintain a healthy mind and body. And, will be less prone to any health issues. So, mostly they should take homemade foods in night.
Adults:
Adulthood is the age where they will be going through little experience about most of the things. It’s because they got exposed from teenage. Adulthood is the age where they have to decide by themselves. They have to decide what kind of food, they should go for. Some will be engaged in muscle building activities and fitness programs, by eating pizza and burger, they can’t have any healthy development in their body. There are chances to get obese.
Adult group can consume native foods for their dinner. Preferably native foods that are homemade are far better.
Elders:
Elderly age group has to give keen importance to their food habits. Just like adults they can’t consume any food. They should avoid roasted and fried foods and instead it’s always better to take any steamed food as dinner. A good amount of sleep and food drives them longer. Since they won’t be engaged much in physical work, the amount and kind of food should be consumed accordingly.
Chappathi, Dosa, Parotta all these foods be avoided, instead they can go with steamed foods like Puttu, Idiyappam, Idly etc..
Different age groups have different style of consuming food. We appreciate the new varieties of food, but one should restrict it by taking it occasionally. Elders must get to know the importance of our native food habits that has made people to live longer.
